FEATURE FRIDAY Q & A

Todays Feature Friday blogger is AUTUMNSKYESBLOG who is a bit of a brainbox and I’m a little jealous as I wasn’t too academic at school.

What are you studying at the moment?

I’m in my third and penultimate year of Medical Sciences. I’m spending this year on placement working with a epidemiology research group – we statistically study enormous amounts of data to test whatever healthy-ageing-related hypothesis we want, collaborate with specialists and publish papers! (geek alert) To keep this short and sweet, having studied health data of half a million people I give you these tips to age well.

1) Keep your cardiovascular system (heart, blood vessels) healthy – the way to do that is exercise regularly and try to keep a fairly balanced diet avoiding the obvious fatty, sugary culprits! It reaaaally makes a difference in literally every way imaginable.

2) Build up muscle – you will thank yourself when you’re old. Sarcopenia (muscle mass, strength and quality loss) is rife among the elderly and it causes all sorts of problems. Aside from the obvious mobility issues, it can be linked to neurological disease as well… Even if you are predisposed to losing muscle, the more you have to begin with, the more ‘buffer’ you have until it becomes a problem, right?

3) Look after your mental health just as much as physical health.

I’m aware no one asked for a health lesson but nonetheless you’re welcome lol xoxo

Where is your favourite place to get away to?

Berlin! When I’m there I get the feeling I don’t have in any other place – you know when a place just feels like YOUR place? It’s no wonder I got my identity-defining cactus-embroidered boy fit jeans from there! Berlin transformed me into my current careless self.

What would your dream job be?

Doctor! Failing that, a dog handler for the police or military!

Why did you start blogging?

Funny story – I got in trouble at uni for not referencing properly and it made me so angry I almost did it to get back at the people – having a place to write where I don’t have to answer to anyone. Somewhere I don’t have to reference or have a word limit.

How To Get A Mental Cleanse

Lately I have realised there is no point in clogging up your life with things that just add more stress and anxiousness to what really can be a more zen like kind of life.

I have came up with a list of things that you can start doing to help get your mental health looking and feeling more like you got your shit in order to put it quite frankly.

SELF CARE

  • Go to bed 30 minutes earlier than you normally would. Do this for a few weeks and you’ll soon be in a routine.
  • Journal for 15 minutes about whatever comes to mind. Its for your eyes only so don’t hold back.
  • Make weekly goals and do daily gratitude journalling. It will make you appreciate things more.
  • Reward yourself with a pampering or a nice bubble bath. Giving yourself some well deserved me time.

DIET AND EXERCISE

  • Meditate for 5 mins in the morning and a little longer in the evening if you can to keep your mind clear and allow yourself to unwind.
  • Find a workout you enjoy and do it regularly. Yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi are less strenuous and focus on the here and now.
  • Look at your diet and add some goodness into it whether its fruit, veggies, nuts and seeds or just drinking more water your body will thank you for it.
  • Enjoy every bite you take and appreciate what you’re eating.

DIGITAL CLEANSE

  • Remove all unwanted texts from your phone unless you really need to keep them its just using up space. That goes for emails too.
  • Try to not go on social media first thing in the morning, take this time to be productive. Leave it until at least 11am before you click on it.
  • Unfollow people who don’t inspire you.
  • Don’t use your phone at mealtimes and out with friends you’re meant to be enjoying the moment not dictating your outing word for word.

POSITIVITY

  • Give yourself a compliment, and compliment others too.
  • Make sure you laugh daily -My favourite quote is live, laugh, love.
  • Make a Pinterest board of positive quotes and affirmations.
  • Do a little random act of kindness. It’s always nice to make someone’s day.

Putting these into practice everyday will change your life completely and you’ll look at it in a totally different light. It will become part of you before you know it and you won’t be getting stressed right out because you will have these helpful tools to keep you smiling.

FEATURE FRIDAY Q & A

For this weeks Q and A I am joined by the wonderful Hannah from AMETHYST ROSE BEAUTY who’s blog posts have inspired me reading them and I hope they will inspire you too.

Here’s a few questions I came up with….

What quote do you love/live by?

I love the quote ‘Once you become fearless life becomes limitless’ because is so true. In life I realised I needed to be fearless in conquering things I wanted to achieve. Being fearless to me means not caring what others think or say, only doing things for me and things that make me happy. Then life really does become limitless, because there are no restrictions on what you can achieve!

What makes you feel confident?

Every time I wear a bold lip I feel so confident! No matter if it’s a simple makeup look or full glam a bold lip, it just makes me feel like I can conquer anything.

What is your signature make up look?

My go to signature makeup look would be winged liner and simple eyeshadow, a bold lip and a good highlight! It’s so quick to do but looks like so much more effort has gone into it!

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging as it was something I had been thinking about doing for a while, and eventually thought there’s no time like the present! So I stopped putting it off and here we are today! Blogging about makeup, makeup looks and things I go through in life for me is very therapeutic. To write about my experiences and interact with others all over the world is amazing! I couldn’t imagine not blogging now!

LIVE YOUR LIFE RIGHT DONT LET SOCIAL MEDIA DIM YOUR LIGHT

I have only been using a laptop/internet for about 10 years I grew up with just having the ones we used at school as means of using technology. There are some things that in these years I have been using social media I have come across and just thought I’d tell you my thoughts on them.

People very willingly will make a point of going out of their way to make someone feel like crap simply by typing in a vicious message online and not having any remorse over upsetting someone. Its best left unsaid if you can’t say anything nice then don’t post it, or talk it out face to face.

It really makes me sad to think that people live their lives by how many likes they have and if it diesn’t have enough they will take it off or how their instagram feed looks with a theme. i just post whatever as i really don’t think it makes a difference as its really not like that in real life.

Society and social media is making our younger generation think if you haven’t got this many likes, followers or nobodys commented then you are not good enough. That is absoloute bull. It has taken me a while to think i will do me and they can do them.  Worrying about fitting in when you definately were born to stand out

Leaving somebody a snide remark on social media to make yourself feel better only makes you look like an egotistical ass. I am pretty sure your parents bought you up to be lovely human beings so think about how you treat people in the future. The saying treat people how you would like to be treated springs to my mind.

Lastly this is very typical on the likes of Twitter and Instagram. People feel like they have to have a big following to be liked or for brands to reach out to them. So they add heaps of people and the very next day they sneakily unfollow you. How very shallow. I am unsure if it will every change but there are apps out there if you want to see whos doing it.

LIVE YOUR LIFE RIGHT, DON’T LET SOCIAL MEDIA DIM YOUR LIGHT

10 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR MOOD

Absolutely everybody gets a down day even the most happiest of people.

Nothing is wrong with looking for advice on how to find that smile again…I’ve done it myself in the past.

So I made this list back along in my journal and until now I didn’t think about sharing it with you.

  1. Grab a DVD (preferably a comedy) some snacks, a blanket and dim the lights.
  2. Light a scented candle, add some bubbles and jump in the tub.
  3. Make yourself an uplifting playlist of songs that make you smile for days when you need to turn to it.
  4. Phone a friend and arrange to meet up- tell them to bring laughter.
  5. Go shopping whether in town or online it is the best sort of therapy.
  6. Draw or write whichever you think your better at and let yourself get super creative.
  7. Go put on an item of clothing that brings you joy, in your fav colour preferably.
  8. Make your favourite meal / snack and really enjoy all the flavours
  9. Go for a walk, feel the fresh air hit your face and take in all the beautiful views you see.
  10. Give a hug to someone it’s so heartwarming and leaves you with that happy fuzzy feeling. You could be cheering up someone else in the process.

My Fab blogger friend Bella Inizio also did a blog post on this topic why not go check hers out too. (Click on her name and it’ll take you straight to it)

I hope my list helps in some way and if you ever feel sad know that I’m only a twitter message away.

Til next time….

FEATURE FRIDAY Q AND A

Welcome to my second Feature Friday. This week we have Alexandra from ALEXACEZA

I have only recently discovered her blog so it’s nice to learn some things about her too. So these are the questions I’ve come up with.

How long have you liked horses and how old were you when you first rode one?

Ever since I was little and could talk for that matter, were about horses. I loved how beautiful, powerful and graceful they looked like. It’s funny because both my mom and dad were surprised by my passion since they never mentioned riding or horses to me (they have never been on one themselves). Eventually as I grew older, they both figured that I wouldn’t stop talking about horses so they finally got me lessons when I was 8 years old.

What 3 things are you most grateful for?

1)My mom – my mom because she taught me to think and look at the world differently. She taught me to always look at the brighter side of life and to look forward to the experiences you want to happen.

2) My horse – I am very much grateful for the horse I have now since the previous ones I have owned always had some sort of health issue I was dealing with at the time and couldn’t ride much either. Orion is super healthy and has never given me any issues! I can rest my head at night knowing he is happy and healthy munching on some hay with his paddock mates! Plus the fact, I can go and ride whenever I want to.

3) My Life – I know this is a very vague answer but truly, I am very grateful and happy for my life. I know that I have been through my ups and downs, I have been through crazy situations but I have always come out stronger than before and much happier to have been lead through those experiences to where I am now. I was always so scared of getting older and not achieving things how I wanted to achieve them, but now I realize that sometimes we need to go through this life down a different path than we envisioned.

Where is your favourite destinations. Home & away?

Hmm, I can’t say I have been to many places yet but so far my favourite place away is Germany. I went there 2 years ago to Munich, Germany and it was just so beautiful! I love the culture, the food and the architecture. Everyone was so lovely, most people spoke English so it made me feel a lot more comfortable! The food, I honestly couldn’t get enough of, YUM and the sites were just stunning, every corner you would turn was so beautiful! I would highly recommend Germany.

At home, I love going to Niagara on the Lake in Ontario. It is one of my favourite places when I just want to get out of the city and go to a cute little town. It super cute and small, you can walk the little town in about 20 minutes! Try the cute cafes and restaurants, they are so worth it! Plus the lake is just a 10 minute walk from the city and it is so beautiful to sit in the park and just watch lake Ontario. I love it!

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I needed a creative outlet. I was always a very creative person and for whatever reason I stopped being creative for quite some time. I would always see someone drawing or painting or just using their creativity somehow and it made me feel sad so I needed to figure out a way how to use my creative talents once again! I would love to draw and paint but I am a perfectionist at heart and am very hard on myself when the drawing doesn’t come out the way I saw it in my head. So I needed to use my creativity differently.

I also wanted to document my life somehow and be able to look back at it and give positive advice to folks. Blogging was just the perfect way to get started! I love how I challenge myself to think of what content would be useful and what people would love to read. It’s just a way for me to mentally “get out” of the office and into my own space.

MY OCTOBER FAVOURITES

You all know this is my favourite part of the month. I really loved October, Autumn is in full swing and I’m another year older. I don’t mind as I still get told I look much younger.

I now bring you my favourite bits from this glorious month.

My New Planner

Until halfway through the month this favourite never even existed to me but I am so happy I have it now. I had it as a birthday present from my Brother, sister in law to be one day and little niece.

For anyone who needs to write down things to remember, birthdays, plans of action and anything else you would need to write down this is the one for it. I  believe that there is a sale on at Hobbycraft where this is from so you may be in luck if you want to bag this beauty.

 Kindle fire 2017 Edition

I used to have one of these a fair few years ago and then I was converted to an iPad. Because i had an iPhone as well as the iPad it made it kinda pointless having both, so I sold it and just kept my phone. Then I was having a nosey on good old Amazon and I stumbled across an Amazon Kindle Fire 2017 edition for £59.99. Having some unspent birthday money I thought I’ll have you.

img_1819

It’s so slim and lightweight its perfect to throw into your bag and you can download all sorts on there…Pinterest and the kindle app is mine…I love how the book speaks to me and I don’t have to grab my specs to read. you can also put a micro sd card in the side up to 256Gb, which I think is pretty cool as you can download films to watch on the go and have pretty much whatever you want on there without thinking ahhh gonna run out of storage.

Cheese Night

Well, I kind of had a few friends over – each on separate occasions and let’s just say the cheese board came out and some yummy varieties of cheese was consumed. I guess that can be partially to blame for a few pounds creeping on this month as there was no birthday cake.

My friends consumed the wine like traditional cheese and wine nights and i just overdosed on cheese and had funny dreams every time. I won’t be partaking in eating that much cheese until Christmas if I can help it…ha ha.

Michael Jacksons Scream Album

I have a few of Jacko’s albums on CD as a bit of nostalgia. Me and my brother were obsessed with him in our childhood days. Craig could do a bloody good moonwalk, me on the other hand looked like a complete tool. So when i saw this album advertised on the tele i thought Spotify must have it and off i went there and i wasn’t disappointed. All my favourites and some extras are on there. Long live the king of pop music.
