My January Favourites

As you know if you have seen any of my other favourites I am very random in what I pick. Its generally what has brought me joy that month.

January has been a funny one in the way that it feels like it has gone on forever but in reality its exactly the same and today is its last day.

So here are a few favourites from the first month of 2018

Paper planes

I have heard this song so many times on the radio I can’t help but sing along and I think that Hoseah Partch has such a wonderful tone to his voice and I look forward to listening to more of his songs.

Learning a new language

img_3158

Every year for the last two or three years I have had on my list of things to do is learn a new language and I have always chosen Italian,  because I think its a passionate language – but I never got too far when trying to speak it. So there is a story behind why I want to learn welsh. My mum is half welsh and we have family in Wales so I thought it made more sense. Plus I hope to go there this year or next, so maybe could show off a bit. ha ha. I’m not too far in on Duolingo (which is a free app with loads of languages to choose from) I love Bora da which is good morning and nos da which is goodnight. I’ll keep you updated on my progress – I will stick to it.

Green pinaforeimg_3157

I have this one dress that I wish they did in every colour as I love the style of it and it fits just right. I did size up to a 12 as I have an hourglass figure. It’s from Primark in a green suede for £10 which for the quality of it I don’t think its that badly priced. My mum did manage to pick it up in a charcoal grey a few weeks ago but I have only worn it once so far. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a black one.

Archers and lemonadeimg_3159

I know last month I said that I loved Dooleys toffee vodka and it will always be my favourite, but I have started eating more healthier and I guess I needed to find a healthier alcoholic drink too.  Back in my early twenties this was what tickled my taste buds and after trying one the memories came flooding back. Peach is the only flavour I’ve seen in the actual spirit,  but I remember having raspberry alcopop archers back in the day. It was bloody yum.

Daisy

img_3160

I just had to include daisy in my favourites…Daisy is my niece, she’s a year and a half and she is such a cute one and clever for her age too. We shared some lovely moments this month and I loved it when she sat up to the table in a big chair and had a takeaway with us. She hasn’t quite grasped my name yet so, for the time being, I am Auntie Hoddy.

Journalling

img_3161

I gushed over this journal in my review of the happy journal and I am still in love with it and how it really gets you thinking about what you want and using your creative mind to get planning. Its only been a month but I am pretty sure all the other pages are just as great. If you love writing like me you’ll love it too.

Pinterest

img_3162

Lastly Pinterest, I have always loved using this app for inspiration but then in December it stopped working properly on my phone and laptop and I could only get on it intermittently. I was rather miffed but so I sent an email to the developers. A few weeks went by of them trying to fix it and then I tried it one night and its worked ever since. My Pinterest addiction is back. I would always say to anyone to download the app it has everything you could think of.

Those were my favourite things I hope you enjoyed reading about why they make me smile.

Til next time…

Things I loved in December

As we come to the end of the year it brings me to that time of the month where i reflect on a few things that I’ve been loving in December.

Without further ado, let’s get started…

Paloma Faith – Guilty

You know one of those songs you hear and you like it so much you play it all the bloody time…this is one of them, I absolutely love it.

The funny thing is for years I have been calling her PAMOLA.

Surely I cant be the only one that has made that mistake.

The little big things by Henry Fraser

After seeing Henry on Jonathan Ross telling his very inspirational story and seeing what amazing talent he had after breaking his spinal cord and is now paralysed from the shoulder down it definitely pulled on my heartstrings.

To hear he had a memoir out with his story and copies of his art on some of the pages inside had me wanting to go buy it and then when I saw it was half price in WHSMITH for £6.49 I leapt at the chance. Its a must have.

Gremlins

When it comes to Christmas films I tend to go for the really old ones and Amazon Prime came to the rescue with one of my childhood favourites – The Gremlins.

It had me still cringing at the point when they go from cute ones like Gizmo and then transform into the torturous gremlins. I am not one for scary films so i still went to bed leaving a light on. Then my nephew came over and we had to watch it all over again. This gif below is one of my favourite parts where they are tricking Mrs Deagal to then send her full pelt out the window on her stairlift.

Thank goodness they aren’t actually real.

Dooleys

Dooleys_Toffee

This will always be my favourite tipple and this month has been an excuse to have a little bit more. This is the only thing alcoholic i drink actually as it doesn’t seem to affect me too much. If you are ever going to sample it a few cubes of ice is my recommendation.

If you have a sweet tooth you’ll possibly like a drop of Dooleys.

Lastly…

Spending time with my family goes without saying really…

I am so lucky that my family all live pretty near so ts never long before we see each other. There’s always laughter and that to me is the best medicine there is.

Hope you all had a great Christmas, here’s to a fab new year.

Let’s see what favourites January brings…

Have A Happy Holly Day

I’m sorry but I couldn’t resist getting my light box out and adding it to the festive decorations.

When I was younger I would always sing that song and insist it was Holly day instead of holiday. Still makes me laugh now.

It’s just over a week until Christmas Day and I’m going to hold my hands up and say that I’m not really ready for it. I have bought a few pressies and the rest will be rush buying a few days before.

With my nieces and nephew it’s more magical when I see them at Christmas as they still believe that Santa brought them it all and not their Mum and Dad and when you’re younger Christmas is so much more exciting.

Ever since I was 7 and my brother broke the news that the Father Christmas at the party we were at was actually Dad. It kind of burst my bubble and I had to keep my mouth shut to those who still believed.

I however am looking forward to spending Christmas Day with my Mum, Brother, Auntie, Uncle and Cousins. I’ll be the youngest there unless Craig my brother brings Daisy who’s 16 months and quite knowing.

We always have our lunch quite late say 3pm whilst listening to the Queen do her speech and then play some games that always have prizes if you win. Alcoholic beverages are out late afternoon – and nibbles and a buffet tea. Some of us go and watch the soaps as they are always good on Christmas Day. There’s always the record button though which there never was back in the day ooo apart from a VHS.

Then it’s Boxing Day – off to the sales if you’re interested in saving a pound or two or carry on the festive period by having a knees up with friends.

There you go blink and it’s over… Don’t forget it’s ok to Eat, drink and be merry without feeling guilty.

Thanks for reading – go have some fun

The Beauty Tag

I haven’t done a beauty related post lately so i thought what would be a good one and i stumbled across The Beauty Tag.

There is 30 questions but some didn’t really apply so i left them out.

so here we go with the questions…..

  1. Do you remember your first makeup item? I do I believe it was the Rimmel stick concealer – when the spots first started to appear
  2. Describe your perfect mascara? One that gives length, volume and doesn’t clump. My favourite at the moment is Maybelline lash sensational. It works a treat.
  3. What kind of coverage do you prefer in a foundation? I’d have to say full because I have problematic skin I like one that covers my imperfections without clogging my pores. I mix Revlon Color Stay & Loreal True Match to get the right shade – both in ivory.
  4. Favourite high end brand? I would have to say Benefit/MAC if they count as high end I tend to stick to the high street. Its kinder to my purse.
  5. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t? I would have to say Too Faced as I love the creativity of their palettes and the lipsticks are always in amazing shades.
  6. Favorite drugstore brand? I would have to say Loreal as I seem to have a lot of their products in my beauty drawer
  7. Do you wear fake eyelashes? No, I don’t need to my eyelashes have always been long enough not to need them and a stroke of the right mascara is enough for the volume.
  8. Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without? Eyeliner or concealer and sometimes lippy depending if it is a long lasting one or not.
  9. What is your most cherished beauty product? My MAC Fluid line Gel Liner.
  10. How often do you shop for makeup? As and when I need it…maybe once a month and then I can treat myself a little.
  11. Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely? I am a bit thrifty. I like to find a product that does the job of a high-end product for half the price.
  12. Do you ever consider taking makeup classes? Maybe one day if I really felt the need to but why not just look on youtube for tutorials instead.
  13. Do you have a favourite place to shop for makeup? I would have to say Superdrug as they always have a huge selection or if I did want to treat myself to a high-end product then its Debenhams.
  14. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine? I tend to stick to a routine so I don’t upset my skin too much – sounds like it has feelings.
  15. What brand do you think has the best packaging? Too Faced without a doubt
  16. Which celebrity always has great makeup? Pretty much all of them as they have their own make-up artists.
  17. Favourite Beauty Guru? Jaclyn Hill of course…she’s talented and she’s got attitude as well.
  18. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup? I wouldn’t say clumsy I just don’t have the patience to do all the fancy eyeshadow looks that you see floating about the web so I stick to simple looks.
  19. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation? Concealer first under my eyes, down my nose and on any spots I can see, then foundation and back in with concealer if needed.
  20. What do you love about makeup? I love how you can do lots of different looks with it and it makes you feel better when you put it on – if you haven’t smudged anywhere in the process.

Anybody that fancies doing it can copy and paste from mine, it’ll be fun to see your answers.

Til next time..

have a fab start to the weekend

Feature Friday Q &A

Todays feature Friday is Marissa Dolan from INROOROOSWORLD.

Marissa is a very brave and courageous young woman and I am so glad to have her on my blog today.

Her openness warmed my heart and I hope it will with you.

On we go with the questions…

How long have you had diabetes for and had it ever stopped you from doing anything in life?

I have had Diabetes since the age of 4, in April 2018 it will be 20 long years. For me I have tried to not let this illness stop me from doing anything and so far it has yet to stop me.

A song that reminds you of your childhood?

Off the top of my head, the song that immediately comes to my mind is Wannabe by the Spice Girls. My sisters and I were (still are) HUGE fans and most likely always will be.

A song that makes you happy?

The first song that makes me the happiest has to be I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston.

A song that helps you through tough times?

Whenever I’m feeling down I hate to sound extremely corny but my go-to song is Fight Song by Rachel Platten. I love the message it gives and I can relate to it so much.

What famous person do you look up to and why?

I have a few celebs that I obsess over but, the most inspirational celebrity to me is Demi Lovato. She has been so open about her daily struggles and gives us all a reason to keep pushing through because she does with such grace and it’s very inspiring.

Why did you start blogging?

I started blogging because I have always wanted to share my life story. Whether that’s about my diabetes or just daily tips I can give, I love sharing what I have been through and honestly blogging has helped me so much with being more outgoing and I love this community it’s amazing!

What happened in November

While I’ve just burnt by mouth on my very hot hot chocolate (I will learn one day) I thought I’d go through the month of November with you…

I can’t really do a favourites with you as I was in hospital most of November having intensive therapy to try and help my mobility. So I only came out of there last week so I have just been getting back to feeling at home and not being woken by other people’s bells.

I was homesick a lot because since moving back in with my Mum I have always had company and never felt alone. But I was miles away from everyone so it was FaceTime and phone calls. I think I would have climbed the wall if I didn’t have any means of talking to anyone from my neck of the woods.

Although I had a lot of help the paralysis is still happening everyday. I get about 4-6 hours rest before it all starts again…mainly overnight which is good cos I can curl up and snuggle down in.

I went in a little apprehensive and negative but came out with a mindful and positive outlook and a tiny improvement to my legs. Any improvement is better than none at all.

Next month I hope to have loads to put in my December favourites.
