Nyxie from Nyxies Nook

I’m a mental health blogger who focuses on eating disorder recovery, depression, anxiety and general wellness of the self. The blog was started in March 2019 in a bid to raise awareness for mental illness such as Anorexia Nervosa and Anxiety, two such disorders I suffer from. However, what started out as a hobby, quickly turned into something much, much more!

Nyxie’s Nook has become a place to talk about all mental health issues and the struggles that come along with recovery. I cover a variety of subjects ranging from general wellness right up to more specific recovery-related content. I not only aim to cater to those in recovery but to people in all walks of life.

Monthly favourites August

Summer is nearly over… I am actually secretly glad as I am a lover of wrapping up and all things autumn.

August has been a scorcher again and I’ve got a little tan which is a first for me

As you know my favourites posts I really look forward to writing and seeing what bought me joy that month.

Here is what I’ve been loving

CONFU FOLDING HAIRDRYER

My other hairdryer had lasted a good 4 years which is a record as I kept breaking them at one point.

I didn’t want a super powerful one as my hair is short so I saw this nifty fold up one for £25 and thought it was perfect for when you go away, and it’s rose gold too.

IPAD PENCIL (APPLE DUPE )

5CAF8B49-F48C-448D-AE61-35B2A587113B

So I downloaded a few sketch apps and then thought I can’t do it with my fingers 🙈 silly me and a plain stylus just wasn’t cutting it. So this Apple Pencil dupe for £27 works on my iPad and also my Huawei and I believe it works on a Samsung phone too and probably an iPhone. I really do love it and I believe the actual apple pencil is £129 or there abouts. So a bargain indeed.

MILANI BIGGER LASHES MASCARA

C52C394A-0D97-4399-A8C3-259CF5D8C461

I have been using this mascara over a few months and I have to say for £10 it’s a lot better than the likes of benefit and L’Oréal. It gives me the full lashes I want without using falsies.

WATERMELON ICE LOLLIES

1FB878F4-C864-49CA-813F-508BF80C6876

I’m a sucker for a lolly. No pun intended 🙈

so when we came to do our big shop last week i saw these were on offer £1 for 4 so you can probably guess they didn’t last long.

if you like watermelon and like an ice lolly like me go pick up some of these.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

2F3FE08C-0200-4E45-A68E-B8EA284A3E52

I guess we are all one of a kind…it’s a funny but true quote.

Lastly I thought I’d include a song that I’ve loved singing along to

I mean anything that Ed sings is amazing in my eyes…. Blow is by Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton and Bruno Mars.

Thanks for stopping by

My Blogger must have essentials

We as bloggers love to experiment with different things on the market to see what will help us as creative writers and add a bit of pyzaz to it.

Well these are some of the things that I have purchased that I wouldn’t be without.

You can click on the coloured link and it’ll take you there. (not sponsored or paid in any way)

Living in England there’s only a little sun so when it goes in before you can get a good shot something else has to be that artificial light and this ring light is just perfect. Not bulky, not over big and can easily be tucked away. You can put your phone on it and record videos or take selfies too which is a great added feature.

RING LIGHT AND TRIPOD WITH SELFIE HOLDER

If you are out and about and want to throw a bit of light on your face when you’re taking a selfie a little ring light that you can attach to your phone for under a tenner is something not to miss. Easily charged by USB or power if you have a spare plug.

RECHARGEABLE RING LIGHT FOR PHONE

If you have been looking for the tripod that you can depend on then the Gorilla pod is the best one out there in my opinion. You can bend it any way and even wrap around the tree for hand’s free photos. This one is for your camera and is under £30.

GORILLA POD TRIPOD

Then of course there’s a smaller one you can put in your bag and put your phone on it. I believe its £10. Bloody bargain.

GORILLA MINI POD TRIPOD FOR PHONE

Well I have to say I don’t use my camera that often I prefer my phone as its more to hand. When I do use a camera I grab my Sony A6000 which has fab specs and well worth getting.

SONY A6000 INTERCHANGEABLE LENS DIGITAL CAMERA

For the last few months since my upgrade I can honestly say the Huawei P20 Pro is a bloggers phone indeed. The battery life is great, the 3 cameras in it has such quality and its super slim to fit into your pocket or bag.

HUAWEI P20 PRO 128GB

I wanted a laptop that wasn’t too cumbersome and that I could take with me on the go if needed, so when I stumbled across the Asus Transformer Book Mini it was exactly what I was after. With the detachable screen and the pen I just had to get it. It was on offer when I got it but its still affordable for a nifty piece of kit.

ASUS TRANSFORMER

BOOK MINI 10.1

Not every blogger will need one but if you also like making videos/podcasts or voiceovers then a microphone like this one is the perfect addition to your blogging essentials.

MICROPHONE FOR VOICEOVERS AND PODCAST

I hope by sharing my faves it may give you food for thought – more like tech for thought.

A little celebration

3 years ago I decided to embark on my blogging journey.

To be honest I wasn’t sure what I was going to write or if anyone was going to be interested in hearing what little me had to say.

❤️ Turns out I’ve shared my health problems and the ups and downs of them.

❤️ In turn that’s made me a more positive person and I love to share those positive vibes and help anyone out who’s feeling down as I’ve been there once upon a time.

❤️ I’m a right girly girl so of course there was going to be beauty and a bit of fashion thrown in for good measure.

❤️ If I have some tips to get you through everyday life of course I’m going to share. All have been tried and tested. I’d never tell you to try something I hadn’t already.

❤️ Love me a monthly favourite looking back at the month just been and what bits and pieces have made me smile.

❤️ Growing up I never loved myself so now I’m older I really urge anyone to love who they are and it doesn’t make you vain or stuck up. So you’ll find me always spreading the self love message.

Here are a few blog posts I thought I’d add in so you can have a nosey

Much loves, you keep up your journeys too

Don’t push yourself too much

I know that the saying goes put your all into everything.

But honestly, be realistic about how much you can do and don’t make yourself feel shit in the process.

I myself have been putting pressure on myself to make podcasts and try and help others and give myself purpose.

Truth be told: At the moment my body paralysis is all over the place – possibly stress related but still not been proven. Anxiety has been present and my bladder is always problematic.

I can’t help these issues but i can not put so much pressure on myself and just help one person at a time when they need it.

My message to you is: Your goal will always be there, don’t rush. It will be worth it in the end.

Wam bam this is how i use Instagram

I myself haven’t stumbled across any blog posts of late doing this kind of thing – maybe a how I edit my Instagram photos but this is totally different.

I’m gonna talk you through how I use Instagram and for good use too.

Ok so as you can see I don’t have a huge following for my blog Instagram but as you can see I pretty much follow those who follow me if I’m interested in their content. Those spam accounts or followers with 100k and following 300 don’t interest me, as I know they are just about numbers. I block them so they don’t pee me off again.

I always make sure I am giving a positive message out to others in my captions, and always use relevant hashtags. I try not to use too many hashtags but sometimes I get a bit carried away.

While on the topic of hashtags I like to follow topics that I’m really into and will give me inspiration and are motivational too. As you can see I’ve followed #Bulletjournal as I’m in the process of making one myself. There are some brilliant pages I could adapt and make my own.

The little save button on a post is great if you see a quote you like or an Etsy shop you want to revisit at a later date. You can kind of bookmark it and can put it into collections too. I don’t have too many at the mo but will definitely improve on this.

If you’d like to follow my Instagram feel free the link is here

Saying that please know that Instagram isn’t just all about self-promo. It’s about inspiring others, making someone smile and occasionally make them spend money when they see a lippy/ item of clothing/something else fabulous you’ve got and they just love it.
