These are my top 4 films I enjoy watching at Christmas which also give me nostalgic vibes.
This time of year Gremlins is either on prime or Netflix or if you’re lucky on normal TV. Think I was about 7 or 8 when I first watched it and being scared shitless for at least 6 months that one would be living somewhere in the house. Gizmo was super cute though.
I think since I was little I have watched The Snowman every Christmas. Its like a tradition now. I remember wishing that when we ever got snow the snowmen we made would go ‘walking in the air’ with us too. One was hoping 🙈
Well actually I enjoy this film all year round. But it has a Christmas theme to it. There’s comedy, romance and eye candy. What else could you ask for in a film.
The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe
Wow I love thinking of how magical this film was. We always tried to get to Narnia via mums walk in wardrobe but it never happened so it was playing make believe for us. My favourite characters in the film were Mr Tumnus, Edmund and Aslan the Lion. There was when I was younger the cartoon version before they made the chronicles of Narnia both amazing and mesmerising to watch.
As I am writing this there are 2 days of May left,
It’s been a lovely one especially for the glorious weather we’ve had… I have actually got a little tan coming on.
Here’s what has also made me happy this month.
This has always been my number one perfume. I reckon I’ve been wearing it on and off for about 6 years. The bonus this month is that I went into Boots to get some toothpaste and happened to catch a glimpse of this in the perfume cabinet. Normally it retails for £37.00 and it was on sale for £29.99. Safe to say it went straight in my bag.
MY MAY PLAYLIST
These are my top 10 songs that I’ve been loving lately. When they come on the radio I can’t help but sing along. Normally on Spotify I am trying to find songs that take me down memory lane but I thought I would listen to more recent hits and I’m impressed.
DISTRESSED DENIM JACKET
I used to have a cropped denim coat a few years back but then I gained a little bit of weight and had to donate it. I went nosing on all the online shops I could think of to try and find a nice one and this beaut was on ASOS. It is now out of stock so I am so relieved that I got it when I did. Since I bought it if I need a jacket its the one I’ve been grabbing every time. Safe to say I love it.
THE KISSING BOOTH
The Kissing Booth was on my recommended films to watch on Netflix. I decided to watch the trailer and I thought it was quite funny so I watched it. I was quite blown away by how emotional I got. They really thought about the storyline. Its more of a coming of age into adulthood type film but at 32 I must say it had me interested from start to end. I won’t tell you what happened but it’s about a girl, her best guy friend and his hunky brother.
I am not one who really plays games but I needed something that was going to be a distraction when a panic attack struck. I stumbled across this game called Free Flow. As you can see above the aim of the game is that you have to connect the same colour dots without interrupting the flow of the rest. It’s one of those games you can easily get lost in and addicted to. I have it on my laptop, my kindle and my phone. It’s definitely one to try.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH
I always like to include a quote that gets you thinking and has meaning behind it and after seeing this one I thought this ones really good I’ll use it here. This one is telling you that no matter what gets your back up or gets you down, if you make the right choices everything will turn out just fine.
All of us have those films that we watch over and over again…
No matter how you are feeling, you put them on and they do all sorts to your emotions. They could tug at your heartstrings, make you laugh, and be super relatable too.
I have put together a small list of mine
you can probably see a theme…
I mean who wouldn’t want to meet a gorgeous silver fox who turns your life around, you fall in love with him and just by chance he climbs up the side of the building to say will you be mine.
Now and Then
If you grew up in the 90s you will know this legendary film. Its 4 friends all different in their own way growing up, finding the meaning of life, boys and friendship. It’s one I’ll always love til I’m old and wrinkly.
I would hope that if I was to jump up into someone’s arms they would do the lift. I really love everything about the film, the acting, the songs and the quotes – nobody puts baby in a corner. Damn right and nobody puts Holly in a corner either. ha ha.
Cheeky but oh so lovely Hugh Grant with Julia Roberts, I am a fan of hers if you couldn’t tell. Its a funny film but also shows that infact someone with a high profile status can fall in love with the average norm or whatever your name may be.
The first one hands down will always be a favourite. Bridget is one lucky lady having Mark Darcy swooning over her. This is me and my best friends go to film…we use the quotes to make each other laugh. It’s a film that can really be enjoyed no matter how young or old you are.
I love singing along to this film so much. It has my full attention for the full few hours its on. Whitney had that sass about her and those eyes of ‘Farmer’. If you haven’t ever watched this film are you even human?
My Sisters Keeper
There’s always that one film that you love but it makes you cry loads and this is mine. It’s a true eye opener about life with a terminal illness and what a whole family goes through and not just the sufferer. It was such a beautiful film and will always be the one to grab when I feel like getting a bit emosh.
As we come to the end of the year it brings me to that time of the month where i reflect on a few things that I’ve been loving in December.
Without further ado, let’s get started…
Paloma Faith – Guilty
You know one of those songs you hear and you like it so much you play it all the bloody time…this is one of them, I absolutely love it.
The funny thing is for years I have been calling her PAMOLA.
Surely I cant be the only one that has made that mistake.
The little big things by Henry Fraser
After seeing Henry on Jonathan Ross telling his very inspirational story and seeing what amazing talent he had after breaking his spinal cord and is now paralysed from the shoulder down it definitely pulled on my heartstrings.
To hear he had a memoir out with his story and copies of his art on some of the pages inside had me wanting to go buy it and then when I saw it was half price in WHSMITH for £6.49 I leapt at the chance. Its a must have.
When it comes to Christmas films I tend to go for the really old ones and Amazon Prime came to the rescue with one of my childhood favourites – The Gremlins.
It had me still cringing at the point when they go from cute ones like Gizmo and then transform into the torturous gremlins. I am not one for scary films so i still went to bed leaving a light on. Then my nephew came over and we had to watch it all over again. This gif below is one of my favourite parts where they are tricking Mrs Deagal to then send her full pelt out the window on her stairlift.
Thank goodness they aren’t actually real.
This will always be my favourite tipple and this month has been an excuse to have a little bit more. This is the only thing alcoholic i drink actually as it doesn’t seem to affect me too much. If you are ever going to sample it a few cubes of ice is my recommendation.
If you have a sweet tooth you’ll possibly like a drop of Dooleys.
Spending time with my family goes without saying really…
I am so lucky that my family all live pretty near so ts never long before we see each other. There’s always laughter and that to me is the best medicine there is.
Hope you all had a great Christmas, here’s to a fab new year.
