My Anxiety Tips

4

If you aren’t a regular reader here you won’t know my anxiety history. I’ll leave my story of how it started here incase you want to have a nosey.

Let’s just say I’ve had it for going on 2 decades and I’ve picked up some helpful coping strategies.

❤️ When you feel an anxiety attack coming on, try and get out into the fresh air and sit down if possible. I get hot and lightheaded in an attack so fresh air and somewhere to perch my bum is much needed.

❤️ The main thing is to concentrate on your breathing to try bring it back to normal. So breath in for 4, hold for 7 and let out for 8. I thought oh my goodness I can’t breath in for that long. But it really does work.

♥️ I have always found music to be the perfect distraction when I’m anxious. In particular I like soft music like acoustic or love songs. Songs that have great lyrics you can focus on. I also love listening to a crackling fire on the relaxing sounds app. Alternatively if you want loud music to try drown out the anxious thoughts that helps too in my opinion.

♥️ You’ve all heard of the grounding tip of things you can see etc using all your senses. Well I’ve come up with this one.

In your bag have something that has a scent that makes you happy like your fave perfume or cologne. I do love lavender too so some essential oils are really handy too.

Have your happy photos on your phone in a folder easily accessible so you can look at them to bring your emotions back to not being stressed out.

Your phone will come for the next two senses which is listen – so it could be the music I mentioned, or some affirmations that you can pre record to remind yourself that everything is going to be ok.

Your mouth without a doubt will be dry in an anxiety attack so popping your favourite sweet in will definitely calm you down, tried and tested by me.

Last sense is touch. There are so many stress relievers out there on ebay/ wish / amazon. Having that at hand in your bag will come in so handy if that’s all you can manage to get during your attack.

♥️ Reach out and ask for help or just message/call someone you trust and say help me take my mind off things, distract me, make me laugh. Pretty sure you have one person you can turn to.

I really could go on and on and on but I think I’ll leave it there.

I’m always here for any of you if you feel the need to chat.

Hope this has been of some help.

Don’t let social media ruin your life

1

I know as I am writing this it is on some form of social media. But this is our little blogging community and on a whole people are lovely and super inspiring.

Ok let’s get down to it…

INSTAGRAM

You have two typicals that you probably compare yourself to

1) whatever they post they get loads of likes even if you think yours is just as good, it’s the person they are liking most of the time not the pics. Sometimes they do have fabulous feeds. But really it’s nice to get to know the real person behind their Instagram. People are not just photos they are more wonderful than that.

2) No matter how hard you have tried it just doesn’t seem to come close to the followers or likes of the said group of instagrammers above. You get frustrated when you don’t get the appreciation too. Please don’t worry, it doesn’t make you any less of a person. Its only an app after all.

FACEBOOK

Don’t get me wrong, facebook is a wonderful thing to keep in contact with friends and relatives. But it’s when it becomes something quite destructive that you need to question whether it’s good for you or not.

The egos of some people they post something provoking and then the more fuel is added to that fire the bigger their egotistical minds get. Sad people really.

Then on the other hand there’s the ones who don’t give themselves down time from facebook, they comment on everything, like everything and post quite erraticly, that’s facebook addiction.

TWITTER

I always look at Twitter as the Fomo app (fear of missing out). You can be on there for absolute hours and not have gained anything but hours of just scrolling through tweet after tweet.

Using it for the greater good is always the way forward. It’s one of my favourite social media platforms to use. Surround yourself with happy people on Twitter and you won’t be just scrolling you’ll be Sending out positive energy and making great friends.

It’s always a question i hear a lot and here’s the answer.

Those that don’t love you for who you are are not your people. Delete and move on.

Hope you’ll look at social media differently after this.

5 SELF HELP BOOKS TO START OFF YOUR NEW YEAR POSITIVELY

0

Self-help books aren’t for everyone but I am definitely one that loves a bit of guidance and because this year for me has been a bit crappy I am going into next year with a positive mind and positive outlook on things.

These 5 books are going to be my holy grails and I will be using them daily. In the past I haven’t been much of a bookworm but things change.

LITTLE BOOK OF CONFIDENCE BY SUSAN JEFFERS

I bought this book a couple of years ago and when sorting out my book box there it was at the bottom. Its no bigger than a pack of cards so no matter how small your bag is you can easily fit it in there for when you need that boost of confidence.

A THOUSAND PATHS TO MINDFULNESS BY LIZ DEAN

My friend was telling me about mindfulness back along and i thought she was talking a load of twoddle and she gave me this book to keep and said you wont want to leave home without it. So when i went into hospital one of the activities other than therapy was mindfulness and i got to learn what its all about. It really helps the stress levels and focusing on the here and now.

START WHERE YOU ARE BY MEERA LEE PATEL

I started this about a year ago and then put it to one side and didn’t follow on with it but now i’m in the right head space i have put it with my books to work on this year coming. It has allsorts of questions about you as a person on whats important to you and where you want to be. I think its fab and look forward to completing it.

DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE BY MEGAN KAYE

This one is quite new to me but i have had a flip through it and done a few of the quizzes. It is full of things to do in there to discover the real you. I believe i got this from Amazon or maybe it was The Works. Either way i highly reccommend buying one.

365 DAYS OF POSITIVE THINKING BY JENNY KELLETT

I just downloaded this book onto my kindle and it was free so that was the added extra. I have decided that I will start it on Jan 1st as it has a page a day for the whole year. There isn’t much on each page but just enough to give you enough positivity and pause for thought. I’m really looking forward to putting this one into my daily routine.

Let me know if you have any Self-help books that you think would be worth reading.

Til next time…
